Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelry K.K.
Toymaker Bandai to team up with GINZA TANAKA,
a well established name in the jewelry business

a Pure-Platinum Mobile Suit Gundam Figure

−Figure to be shown at world's largest jewelry show held in Basel, Switzerland−

BANDAI Co., Ltd. announced that it has teamed up with GINZA TANAKA (Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelry K.K.) to create “GUNDAM FIX PLATINUM, a pure-platinum Mobile Suit Gundam” figure. Bandai is based in Taito-ku, Tokyo and headed by Kazunori Ueno, President & CEO. GINZA TANAKA is based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo and headed by Hideya Okamoto, President & CEO.
This joint effort is the result of GINZA TANAKA's desire to create new value in its platinum jewelry business and Bandai's desire to gain more exposure around the world for the Gundam characters. The companies created the timeless and highly popular character in pure platinum (Pt1000), a precious metal symbolizing purity, rarity, and eternity. By reproducing the character in ever glittering silvery-white platinum, the companies have succeeded in preserving the charm and splendor of Gundam for all time. With the substantial presence only possible with a precious metal and a design consisting of as many as 89 elaborate parts, GUNDUM FIX PLATINUM is a delicate yet noble work of art.
GUNDUM FIX PLATINUM will be shown at BASELWORLD 2007, the world's largest international watch and jewelry show held in Basel, Switzerland. This year's show will open on April 12. There are no plans to market the figure at this time, but its retail value is estimated at US$250,000. The figure was made with 1,400 g of pure platinum (Pt1000).

♦About This Latest Effort
GUNDAM FIX PLATINUM, a pure-platinum Mobile Suit Gundam figure, got its start when Bandai made a proposal to GINZA TANAKA about a new project utilizing the characters. This joint effort is the result of GINZA TANAKA's desire to create new value in its platinum jewelry business and Bandai's desire to gain more exposure around the world for the Gundam characters.
In creating the figure, Bandai relied on the art direction of Hajime Katoki, a designer who has been on the front line of Gundam model design. GUNDAM FIX PLATINUM has been reproduced in an elaborate 89-part design, a feat never before achieved in pure platinum. The entire process took some two years from design to manufacture.
This work was not created for retail purposes. It is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece representing the enduring world of Gundam in platinum, a precious metal known as the king of precious metals for its purity, rarity, and eternity.
Furthermore, a 0.15 ct. diamond was used on the figure's head to accentuate the glittering platinum.
